My Thoughts: This read was full of action, ex-SEAL style plus a big helping of brotherly love and protection topped with some very sensuous love scenes.

I simply adored Jake Buchanan, better known as Romeo. He loved women and they him, and had been fighting his strong attraction to his boss’s sister for years. Logan had always warned Jake away from his sister—with a threat of death. How could he get around that? It was a pretty good coercion to steer clear of lovely Maria, however his attraction was more than he could deal with even though he knew it may cost him his job, Logan’s friendship and of course death.

Not planning on getting involved with her, he received a call in the middle of the night, with a plea from Maria to come to her aid. He’d do anything for the woman AND she was his boss’s sister.  With instincts of a SEAL, he raced off in the middle of the night finding Maria scared and hurt in a hotel room. Not only did I feel he was a man of honor, he was a loyal friend. Two check marks for Jake.

I liked Maria, too.  She was a funny and brave woman.  She made me laugh with her food choices and we got to see how much heart Maria had when she was so concerned for her cat. She was a smart woman of twenty-four, struggling with self-esteem since her mother had railroaded her to feel little self-worth no matter how she had treated and cared for her mother. Because of that bitter experience she held compassion for those girls who have bad starts in their young lives. Certainly, she could easily be a role model for young ladies. She was extremely curious and liked answers to her questions. This time, however, the consequences of her need to know were disastrous.  Would we all not wish to have an ex-SEAL to save us?

Sandra Owens writes a mean story with evil antagonists, suspense and fear just around the corner.  Then there were moments of tears. I was anxious for Maria, but in my heart I knew Jake would be able to take care of her. But could she get Jake to love her? And if she could, would he be loyal to her? She thought if her father didn’t bother to stick around long enough to know she existed, how could he? Was he capable of loving a woman with such a past? Would she just be a love- ’em-and-leave-’em lady?  It was a telling, well-written story with characters fully-fleshed out, the second in her series, A K2 Team novel.
