About the Story: Stranded in 1603 Scotland, veterinarian Jenny Morgan is eager to get home to New England. Hiding her ability to read auras, a powerful witch comes to her aid. All Jenny will miss is the man who stole her heart, one dark night.

Laird Gavin Sinclair has a missing brother, a murderous father, and a dark-eyed beauty on his mind. When Jenny returns to a dangerous future, he sets aside his obligations and searches for her at the New England Highland Games. Jealousy and lust ravage his dark soul, until he and Jenny fight evil together.

My Thoughts: I enjoy reads which pull people from the present into the past. The writer has taken this concept a step further. She pulls people from the past into the present. Present-day language and communicating between these time periods is quite comical and entertaining.

In book one Jenny Morgan takes her first trip into the past, not of her own doing nor did she put it together immediately. Laird Gavin Sinclair makes a big impression on her. She hasn’t been so attracted to a man. In this second book of the series, Jenny is more fully fleshed out. Her friends Izzy, Jake and Bull, all seemed to have decided what they want. All three want to remain in the past. Jake and Bull are from present-day New Hampshire, with Scottish ancestry.

Jenny knows Laird Gavin doesn’t belong to her time. He really didn’t seem like a very nice person, pursuing Izzy for years just to marry and obtain her property. Nevertheless, she is drawn to him. Her ability to read auras and possible other abilities alluded to, particularly by the witch, Dorcas Swann, keep the reader asking questions and needing answers.

Laird Gavin is the dark Highlander. He has magical powers of his own with potions aiding him in time travel. His older brother is missing and he must focus on finding him. Yet…Jenny is now in danger from forces that wish him dead. When Jenny and Laird Gavin spent a night in the barn, cuddling close for warmth with some very evocative kissing, they had been watched. It is logical. To get to Gavin, Jenny would be a target. Will Gavin follow his heart taking him AGAIN through time? Or will he focus on finding his brother who could be dying, if he were still alive?

Themes of honor (Gavin has an abundance, but needs to prove he does to himself, and yes, to Jenny), protecting the weak, the importance of family members who don’t share equally desirable traits, can previous enemies be friends, should people who have special abilities be shunned – all are a part of this delightful, suspenseful and twisting plot guaranteed to thrill and leave with you a smile, tear and occasional chipped fingernail polish.

More characters are introduced into this story — Rae Wilson (abilities of his own), Wynda Sinkler (likeable, but does she hold a secret?) Denise, Jenny’s assistant at her veterinarian clinic, Cinnie, possibly evil  herself, or being controlled by someone with greater magic.  Angus Sinclair, Gavin’s father is a true bastard. God’s teeth! He’s so easily detested!!

The story ends with threads loose, leaving me eager to read the next book in the series.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAAbout the Author: Nancy Lee Badger grew up in Huntington, New York, on the north shore of Long Island. With a love of art and skiing she found her niche at Plymouth State University in Plymouth, NH. Surrounded by ski areas and a fantastic art program, she graduated with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Art Education.

The bonus of struggling through four years of classes? She also met her one and only true love…her husband, R-G. As a store clerk in the early years, when they owned nothing; to an assistant store manager for a True Value hardware store whose discount plan helped them restore their 1860’s farmhouse; to a 9-1-1 Emergency Medical Dispatcher where she helped people all over the state, she found time to raise a family, own a couple of lovely homes, volunteer as an EMT and firefighter, volunteer with the hospital auxiliary (and become its president), paint milkcans and landscapes, and so much more. Throughout these years, she learned to watch people and to figure out what made them tick. She and her husband decided to move south to be near family. North Carolina has become their new home base.
