Review: Author Misty Evans did not disappoint in book 2 of this exciting series. I just gobbled it up!

I loved the fact Charlotte, an alpha heroine, didn’t let her past take her down, but strengthened the good of what she believed in.  A woman of quick wit, high intelligence, with gypsy blood, knew how to stay alive. She saw in Miles a survivor, like herself, and  it wasn’t part of her plans to fall for anyone. She was a loner.  Love isn’t a calculation, it just happens, and often it will take a person by surprise.  Charlotte wanted to protect Miles as she did all the people she dared love.  Her job was just too dangerous, and now she had real problems just to survive those who pursued her.  Survival was to trust no one.  But why was Miles so important to her and why did she trust him?

Miles, ex-SEAL, has always worked in a team.  When he lost his whole team in the helicopter crash just before meeting Charlotte, he had lost a part of himself.  He felt guilt for being the only survivor, albeit, close to death when she found him.  He wasn’t sure how he’d continue, to get his head around the catastrophe.  That is, until he was healed by the sweet, caring woman  called, Sarah (Charlotte).  So what, if he knew she didn’t tell the complete truth?  Yet, what was she hiding?  Was she the enemy? Logically, he should forget her, but his heart told him otherwise.

The scenes were suspenseful and dangerous, moving the story forward at a heart-quickening pace. Characters were rich with flaws and redeeming qualities, secrets hidden from their closest colleagues. The scene description of snow, freezing temperatures, treacherous mountain paths, and caves felt very authentic, they were so well described. I felt I was in The Carpathian Mountains trudging through the snow with Charlotte and Miles.
